Good introductory lesson to the design process. I would call it a candy conatiner and offer other options besides bags. I would give them more time to play with other containers to get more ideas. Students got stuck with the bag concept.

This is an excellent design project for students. Students should have experience figuring volume and weight. A lesson on mass and density should be done prior to this design task. Students will also gain a better of the difference between weight and mass. As an extension to this activity, I will have students record data from each groups design. As a class we will discuss the characteristics of the designs and why some worked better than others. Students will write an evaluation of their groups design using content specific vocabulary.

Great way to introduce the design process and begin science notebooking. Materials easy to assemble with minimal cost. Kids were immediately engaged.
