Students were engaged during this activity using simple materials to clean water. They were surprised that rocks and sand could clean water. Our team did add some information about water filtration to give the students background. We are doing this activity again!
The Water Filter activities were great. The unit took longer than I thought, but the students really enjoyed the hands-on approach. We did add elements to the unit to allow the students to relate better to the unit.
The Water Filtration Unit worked well with the unit we cover over Ecosystems. It was a culminating activity of many items we had already discussed. The students also enjoyed working together to create the filters.
