This was a nice, easy inquiry activity. I think the students would enjoy this activity and would easily be able to implement it. As for moving it into a “design activity”…I think the most logical would be to design a habitat for the pill bugs based on the information the students gained in the inquiry activity. They could also research more information about the pill bugs on the Internet, using this information while constructing the habitat. You could extend this activity into producers, consumers, decomposers. The students could identify where the pill bug falls in those categories while also having a conversation about predator and prey.
