The ranking in League of Legends is called League system. The ranks in LoL is of nine tiers and each tier consists of fourdivisions each, the 4^th division being the least and the 1^st division; the highest. The LoL League system matches players of the same rank to play against and with each other. The ranking in each division is done by the accumulation of League point {LP}. LP is earned or acquired when a player win ranked games and vice versa. The player MMR {Match Making Rating} determine the LP, the MMR is directly proportional to LP i.e.the higher the MMR the higher the LP a player will earn when he wins and vice versa but the LP decay will not have an impact or affect the MMR. {LP decay is when a player from the diamond rank and above did not play a ranked game in 28 days, they tend to lose 50 LP and this repeat itself every 7 days till the player play a ranked game, that’s when the decay will stop}.

For Master rank and above; when a game is played; it adds to the player “banked games” till it reaches 10 games. Instead of LP decay after 28 days for Diamond rank and above; it’s a game loss for Master and above. I game will be removed every day from the bank,if it reaches 0,the player will lose 250 LP every day until the player bank more games but if this continues and the player is left with 0 LP, the player will be demoted automatically but the LP decay will not affect the MMR. Demotion happens when a player loses a match when the LP is at 0 or inactivity decay. When a player is demoted, the player will be moved to the next lower division but their LP will be reset to 75.

Entering a new division will give the player a demotion immunity which will lapse after several games, this prevents the player against bad luck as the player is still green to the new division, the player has a chance to get things right and progress but the case is different for Masters players, you will be demoted after playing 3 games with loss and your LP is 0.In the other hand, Promotion occurs when a player reaches 100 LP in his/her division, the player will be automatically promoted to a set of games that is called promotion seriesand when the player wins the series, the player will move up the division and the LP will reset to 0 and vice versa for losing.
