Wood window care

Wooden windows are environmentally friendly, reliable, stylish and durable. However, the last quality of the product directly depends on the owner, who must ensure proper maintenance of wooden windows. Otherwise, a long life is out of the question. But do not be afraid! Careful maintenance of wooden windows is not so complicated and does not require any special skills and abilities.
All that is required from a careful owner is to monitor the condition of the functional elements of the wooden window:

  • double-glazed window;
  • the frame;
  • fittings;
  • seals.

Maintenance of the glass unit

The care of the glass unit consists in regular washing of the glasses from the outside of home and street dusts. Only special window cleaning products should be used. A rubber scraper or soft natural rags will be suitable as a tool. It is not necessary to disassemble the glass unit. The space between the glasses is airtight and neither dirt nor condensation can accumulate there.

Wood frame care

The care of the frame consists of regular inspection of the paintwork, cleaning it from dust and if there are any damages, restoring the paint or lacquer layer. Clean the frame from dust as it gets dirty, using only special care products for painted or lacquered surfaces.
As a rule, the first 7 years of repairing a wooden frame are not necessary, and then (after restoration) you can live in peace for 3-5 years. However, it is still necessary to inspect the wood solid wood (or glued beam) at least once a year to detect and then restore micro-damage to the paintwork.

Wood window hardware maintenance

High quality modern window hardware does not require special care. They should only be gently wiped with a soft dusting cloth and checked for functionality. In the event that mechanisms start to "jam" and effort is required to open the window, moving elements can be lubricated with machine oil. If you are not sure that you can handle this yourself, contact a workshop.

Maintenance of seals

In wooden windows natural and artificial rubbers are used as seals. They should be wiped from dirt only by means that do not contain solvents and alcohols. For example, you can use for this purpose ordinary warm water with household soap.

In addition, the seals should be lubricated with silicone grease twice a year. At the same time, the elasticity and elasticity of the rubber should be assessed. If you can see that the material is "old", the sealant should be replaced. As a rule, gaskets should be replaced once every 7-10 years. You can do it yourself or contact a workshop.
