  Born in Thailand. Fed on expired U.S. Army formula rations. Parents immigrated to Michigan where Chinese/Thai neurosurgeon father was frequently presumed to be a house servant or thief. Never noticed I wasn't actually male until a couple years into my first faculty position at Cal Poly.
