Incivility can be caused by a number of things, including rude behavior, gossiping, public criticism, and spreading rumors. It can also include racial slurs, sexual harassment, and blaming others for mistakes (Wood, 2016). Incivility in the nursing profession is harmful for nurses as it impacts their health in both a physical and psychological manner. Incivility can be avoided by implementing several strategies.
