The medication modafinil, a non-amphetamine central nervous system (CNS) stimulant with wakefulness-promoting effects, is marketed under the name Modalert 200. It is mostly used to treat narcolepsy, sleep work shift disorder, and obstructive sleep apnea, three disorders that result in excessive daytime drowsiness. With a minimal chance of misuse and dependency, modafinil is typically safe and well-tolerated. It has been demonstrated to be useful in raising attentiveness and alertness in those who are sleep deprived. Its ability to enhance executive functioning, memory, processing speed, or attention in other groups is, however, somewhat restricted.
