For example, when sought after because of your unique skills as woman of color, be sure to articulate how your role must also contain certain elements to benefit your current and long-term career goals. Personal: (1) deliberately map steps to the goal, (2) make it a point to develop and demonstrate critical leadership skills early in your career, (3) take calculated risks. Institutional Survival Strategies: (1) make sure you are in the right place; institutional mission and values impact your career. (2) know policies on departmental initiatives and priorities (3) develop a tenure plan/career plan.
