About Us

Martin Jischke and Sally Frost Mason established the Discovery Learning Research Center in 2003 to address the Grand Challenge of education for the 21st Century.  The grand challenge issues of today and tomorrow require solutions that draw from many disciplines and incorporate ideas from many perspectives.  Thus, 21st Century education must transcend traditional disciplinary-based approaches and embrace inclusive pedagogies.  Since its inception, the DLRC has become:

  • Internationally recognized for designing and studying effective mechanisms for enhancing the STEM pipeline;
  • A driver for undergraduate education transformation;
  • A national model for effective STEM education research and evaluation.

January 1, 2017, the DLRC formally joined Purdue's College of Education and became the ELRC (Evaluation and Learning Research Center).  This move enables us to foster closer collaborations with education researchers in the College, expanding the Center's pool of education research and evaluation expertise, and formalize graduate training opportunities.
