Overview

UNALM and its partners will develop a hub for sustainable agricultural, economic and social improvement in the San Martin region of the Peruvian jungle (PERU-HUB Project) with three major goals:

      1) Expand economic and social development in post-eradication regions to sustain coca reductions by:

a) promoting alternative crop development, and utilizing and disseminating research-based technology,

b) applying modern practices and policies to local production and marketing of agricultural products to strengthen the capabilities of local farmers, while promoting empowerment of women and indigenous communities;

c) developing an inclusive platform for knowledge building and utilization to benefit local community producers, extension and research institutions

     2) Increase public integrity to reduce corruption by utilizing and teaching best practices in institutional administration and business practices; and

     3) Strengthen sustainable environment and natural resource management to expand economic and social benefits by:

a) teaching best practices in crop and soil management to conserve biodiversity, soil function and natural ecosystems; and

b) Utilizing technologies to predict, plan for, and mitigate climate change impact.

This group will be used to organize the monitoring, evaluation and learning activities of this project.
