A million thanks for a momentous year and an exciting one ahead
Last year, President Daniels called for bold proposals for the Board of Trustees meeting of June 26, 2013. We proposed to create the Purdue Polytechnic Institute:
The goal of the Purdue Polytechnic Institute is to establish an environment within Purdue that benefits from all the support and intellectual resources available at Purdue while at the same time enjoying ample administrative and decision making freedom. This will enable it to be innovative, take risks, and serve as an incubator for the most daring experiments and to give birth to the new generation of our colleges and university. In this respect, the Purdue Polytechnic Institute will be the “skunk works” for curriculum innovation through an Innovation Fund that supports the development of interdisciplinary courses and a “safe house” for faculty to experiment and collaborate outside the traditional academic boundaries.
A few weeks short of a year later, we have our first cohort of 38 students who started signing up for classes at their STAR session today. The excitement and sense of responsibility that surrounds this are overwhelming and uplifting. This has been such a team effort with a swell of support from all corners of the university that we could not even have dreamed of when we stated last year that the Purdue Polytechnic Institute will “benefit from all the support and intellectual resources available at Purdue.” We realize that this is just the beginning of a long journey that we will be taking together. Even so, we can not constrain our sense of gratitude and our desire to express thanks for the collective vote of confidence and willingness to take this leap of faith with us.
The faculty fellows are the foundation of the whole effort. They are a diverse group of faculty from the Colleges of Technology, Liberal Arts, and Education who quickly coalesced together as a collaborative team ready to take risks, learn together, and model all Purdue Polytech values. They are the architects of the Purdue Polytechnic educational research and development agenda and the curriculum being designed and delivered. Their enthusiasm, unshakable commitment, and willingness to trust the project and trust each other have been spectacular. The curriculum that they have prepared is a model of creativity, innovation, and deep care for the students.
The department heads of all participating faculty have been instrumental in every step of the way. They were willing to release some of their best faculty and look after their best interests; they actively participated in brainstorming and decision making; and they played a key role in interfacing with their advisors and curriculum committees to ensure that Purdue Polytech students have a ramp in from and a ramp out to their departments. The Director of Exploratory Studies has joined the venture without hesitation; she invited her students to participate and worked with us in providing them the resources they need.
Thanks go as well to other colleges and departments that have expressed their support and interest in participating going forward. These include the College of Agriculture, the Department of Engineering Education, the Department of Mathematics, and Purdue Libraries. We really look forward to broadening our family of partners for the benefit of all of our students and units.
We have gained a new appreciation for the depth and breadth of Purdue’s commitment to serving the students first and foremost. This manifested itself in some of the services that we called on and in others who just came to us wanting to help us help our students. DLRC opened its doors for us accommodating our space needs. CIE and the IMPACT team have been a real partner sharing expertise and resources. The BGR team has shown flexibility and openness in our customizing the event for Purdue Polytech; the Learning Committee team members have gone out of their way to make Purdue Polytech a Learning Community, providing us with as many services as possible. ITaP offered to help pave the way with any challenges that might be software related; their Studio team has been generous with their time and expertise with Passport and digital badges.
Finally, we could not have done anything without the boundless support we have received from the Registrar’s office. They have worked with us tirelessly as we changed the offering about 100 times. They provided guidance, support, advice, and unprecedented patience. For the longer term, the Registrar and his team are partnering with us in creating a test bed for competency-based learning and credentialing. Their enthusiasm, thinking outside of the box, and can-do attitude are an inspiration to us all.
We cannot close without first thanking the Board of Trustees and the President’s office for approving this and for opening many doors for us, perhaps more than of which we are aware.
The convergence of support from all corners of the University gives our faculty the needed confidence that they are on a mission to focus on one and only one thing: “create the ideal environment for our students to learn, grow, and thrive.” We have the very best team to do that and we feel blessed to be working with such great people.

My garage door would stop by itself. And when i push the remote control, it would comtinue to close. Before, if i push the remote button twice, the door would reverse in the direction it was going. So it is probaly not the remote. Any ideas??

A crack in the top panel of your garage door usually indicates some other problem. Cracks in the top panel are usually caused by the opener not being installed correctly. The arm connecting the opener to the door could be in the wrong position or the door may not be strong enough to support an opener by itself.

I am wondering if it is possible to replace the panels, but not the tracks and springs, etc. If so, is this something a person can do themselves, or do you need a professional? I know we shouldn't attempt to dismantle the torsion spring ouselves.

I pull the plug on the garage door opener and plug it back in. The chain start moving back and forth(just for few inches) and won't stop. The door manual open and close no problems.

Calling a someone to repair it might work, but check around for estimates, compare, and get an estimate before setting up an appointment. Make sure the repair service is able to service your type of opener.

Add a powerful door opener, either human or mechanical, and you can get the wheels knocked out of the track. The wheels are easiest to get back in the track at the point where the track bends back into the garage.

Because this is a commercial garage door, I'd personally recommend Liftmaster. With residential openers I would make a few recommendations, but in this case I only have one company that is coming to mind.

It should be. The openers basically just hang in the garage and do all their pushing against the bar that reaches to the door frame, so the bar has to match the opener.

All the answers above are partially right. Wireless IP cameras are cameras where each camera sends its video signal through a wifi signal. It does not have to use your internet connection or slow down your internet.

If properly placed, cameras can also be used while you are home to observe what is going on. In my opinion, the average homeowner would be far better off with an alarm system than a camera system.
